How to find our true purpose

Hello my dear friend,

In honour of the New Moon and the Wish Tree Academy 2 year anniversary, we are digging deep around PURPOSE.

Purpose is in my opinion the most important aspect of a heart-led business. And this is what I know:

Having a sense of purpose and knowing our purpose is not the same thing.

I spent most of my life working on worthy causes, all because I was seeking a sense of worthiness in myself.

In fact, I used to justify my existence through the “good” projects I poured my energy into. I fought for the underdog.

At times, these projects gave me a lot of meaning.

I was an advocate for Children’s Rights and an Inclusion and Diversity activist. I worked with young Tsunami victims in Asia, campaigned for education in Africa, became a cultural strategist in Sweden, helped shape informal learning in the UK…

Although rewarding, none of these projects was my path of true shining. None of these projects lit me up the way that my work with you in the Wish Tree Academy lights me up today.

Why?

Because our purpose is to be who we truly are.

The us that isn’t pleasing, perfecting, performing, pretending, adapting or rescuing in order to feel a sense of self-worth, or in order to fit in, to feel a sense of belonging, acceptance or meaning.

The you that will say yes when you mean yes, and no when you mean no. The you that will allow yourself to receive in equal measure to how much you give. The you that nourishes yourself instead of driving yourself to overwhelm or depletion. The you that lives from joy rather than confusion and a feeling that there is more to life.

Do you want to know her?

When we hide who we truly are, we dim our light. We live from a place of fear and scarcity. We believe that we are not enough.

“The Purpose of our lives is to be Happy”

Knowing our purpose starts with acknowledging and healing that part of us that doesn’t know that we are enough.

On my own journey home to me, I slowly came to understand that in my past I had been numbing the pain of not feeling enough just as I was, through doing good. My work had been fuelled by fear (anger) and love, rather than just love.

I was a rescuer, fixing on the outside what I felt was broken inside of me.

Numbing the pain that never seemed to go away by making other people smile.

Do you know what that feels like?

That’s why having purpose that isn’t our true purpose will not bring us peace.

So finding our purpose is in reality about KNOWING ourselves and truly SEEING ourselves.  Seeing our light beyond the constructs, fears and limiting beliefs. And loving what we see.

That’s the moment we belong to ourselves, rather than the fear that drives us to pretend or prove or please.

When we belong to ourselves we are our true selves.

And that’s when we feel at peace; when we can BE peace.

We can’t give what we don’t have.

I am no longer an angry peace activist.

I understand that peace starts with me.

And that is the highest purpose, the intention, with all of Wish Tree’s work. It means that I can be the Midwife of Light that is my purpose. It means I can help you heal and live your highest purpose too.

So today I invite you to take a moment to sit with:

* What drives me in my work?

* sense of purpose or my true purpose?

* A need to make yourself useful?

* Proving my worth?

* Something else?
